追悼Steve Jobs

1年間コーラの瓶を売って食費を稼ぎ、若き頃ウォズニアックから報酬を搾取した過去を持つ男。だけど彼が亡くなったことでアップルは今後どうなるか大きな岐路に立たされた気がする。

ジョブズについては英語版Wikipediaの方が出典がしっかりしてる記事がある。例えば彼の死を受けていろんな人物が発言してますがそれらがまとめられたのがこちら＞Statements on Jobs’ death。 一日経ったら消えてた。

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life,” ってのは2005年6月12日スタンフォード大学卒業生に送られた祝辞内容の一部。この部分が有名なんだけど個人的には以下の文章の方が身につまされるというか、彼の普通の人間的な一面にも共感ができる。

“I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and no idea of how college was going to help me figure it out, and here I was, spending all the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. “

初期の頃、とにかく金に汚い印象があるけど経済的に恵まれた環境ではなかったため大学入ってから苦労してたようです。ちなみにコーラ瓶は５セントで売れたとか。

“And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. “～中略～”you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

好きなものを見つけ信念を持って行動すること。そうするとこういうものも生まれるらしい。

彼の言葉どおり、点と点はあとから繋がりが分かるのなら、彼の死も何か「点」に繋がってたことがあとで分かるのだろうけど今はまだ分からない。ここからさらなる未来へ向けての繁栄か衰退かもっと違う何かなのか。
